I am interested in studying vector-borne diseases from an integrative perspective. I am currently working with sand flies, blood-sucking insects that transmit the nasty Leishmania parasite. Twelve million people are currently infected in 88 countries. I'm currently switching certain sand fly genes off and studying the effect hoping to develop new control strategies. I am also interested in art as a mean of scientific communication and as a creative tool towards developing scientific knowledge.
