Elizabeth Carmel Hamilton received her Ph.D. in art history from the University of
Florida in 2015, where she was a McKnight Doctoral Fellow. She completed her
master's degree in art history at UF; her thesis investigated the visual legacy of slavery
and the memorial landscape of the United States. The International Review of African
American Art will publish that research in the spring of 2016.
She received her bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Wyoming in
Laramie, where her artistic exploration and scholarly pursuits explored black female
