- 2. THE TOPIC I AM PRESENTING IS: Visiting the Walden Galleria Mall Photo 1) Picture taken inside the mall on second floor.
- 3. SHOPPING MALLS DESCRIBED IN THE TEXT: Stated in chapter five of Metro and Edge City Growth, on page 98 and 99, the shopping malls are a huge urban symbol for the twenty-first century. Malls have become the signature structure of the age. I believed that the mall would be an amazing place to observe the community because a variety of people attend, enjoy and shop at the mall. - 4. WHY I CHOOSE THIS TOPIC FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT I live in South Buffalo and the Walden Galleria is a ten minute drive from my house. I enjoy going to malls, eating at the food courts, window shopping and just walking around with friends. The Walden Galleria was a great choice for this assignment because it allowed me to observe the community with a variety of people. There are many different individuals in our community and the mall brings them all together. - 5. WHAT I FOUND ON MY PHOTO WALK When I pulled into the parking lot of the mall, it was very busy. It took me about fifteen minutes to find a parking spot. There were many cars parked, people driving and walking around the mall which made it a little overwhelming. After I parked and walked into the mall, I first went into the food court. - 6. WHAT I FOUND ON MY PHOTO WALK Walking into the food court it smelled amazing. I could smell French fries from Arbys and pizza from Sbarro. I walked by the Japaneses restaurant and they were giving out samples of orange chicken which melted in my mouth, it tasted so delicious. I then sat down and people watched. I observed that there were a variety of teenagers in the food court. I went over break when many schools did not have school, so there were many teenagers and children. One group of girls, probably around the ages of 16, were all sitting down, eating and on their cell phones. That bothered me because they are all sitting next to each other and not socializing. On the other side of me was an older couple very cute talking and eating. This opened my eyes that my generation will never be like the cute old couple talking and enjoying each others company. My generation only cares about technology and posting online so that everyone can see they are at the mall. They do this instead of enjoying the time they have with their friends. - 7. WHAT I FOUND ON MY PHOTO WALK After I left the food court I just began to walk around the mall. I noticed that stores who had a sale had more people in them rather than stores that did not. Personal, I only walk into a store that has sales because I never like paying full price for items. The store Sears was closing so there whole store was on sale. Which would explain why it was crowded with shoppers. Photo 9) Picture of Sears store with closing signs on the windows which means they are having a huge sale.
- 8. WHAT I FOUND ON MY PHOTO WALK When I go to the mall, I always love seeing families. I really like how the mall offers so many different activities for the children. The Regal Cinema movie theater is a huge attraction that the whole family can come too and enjoy. The mall also has the new go Pole Position Speedway kart track inside the mall which is a hands on driving experience for teenagers and adults. Dave and Buster is one of their newer additions to the mall but is a big hit. Groups of all ages can go to Dave and Busters to get a bit to eat and also be entertained for hours with all the variety of games they have.

- 11. HOW MY FINDINGS ENHANCED THE MATERIAL FROM THE CHAPTER Shopping malls had a huge impact on our society. Reading about how shopping malls have helped shaped the economy, it was great for me to go visit a mall that I havent visited in awhile. Malls have give people jobs to better their lives and a place where friends can hangout and families to enjoy one another in a safe environment. Malls were built to project a safe and secure image and provide activities for the general public. Shopping malls have defiantly had an effect on our society.

HOW MY EXPERIENCE HAS ENHANCED MY ABILITY TO APPLY MY KNOWLEDGE IN THE COMMUNITY My experience of visiting the Galleria Mall has enhanced my knowledge in my community by really allowing me to appreciate shopping malls. Because of online shopping, shopping malls one day will become a thing of the past. I hope that never happens because I really enjoy having a safe and enjoyable place to go, shop and eat at. Growing up, I loved going to the mall and walking around all day with my grandpa to pick out the perfect Christmas gift for my grandma. I hope one day my kids will have the same experiences.
