A Pacific Northwest native, Eric Garton spent much of his life in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho, where he attended the University of Idaho receiving a B.S. degree in Wildlife Resources with special emphases in habitat, forestry, and fire ecology. After a brief time away from the natural resources field, Eric married and moved to sunny Arizona where he worked as a biologist for the US Forest Service. Most of his time was spent on the Coronado National Forest near Safford, monitoring populations of endangered Mexican Spotted Owls and Mount Graham Red Squirrels. In addition, Eric monitored and measured the effects of fire exclusion on Arizona forests and the impacts associated.
