My research interests lie in the pathogenesis of viral infections and virus–host interactions during the course of disease. This interest has a particular emphasis on host pathogen relationships on genetic, immunological and evolutionary levels. This has a major impact on pathogen evolution with respect to both intra and inter-host variation. Over the last 3 years my research has explored this interest in the context of transfusion-related transmission of a number of clinically significant pathogens (including Plasmodium and viruses -HIV/HBV) in sub Saharan Africa.
