The SWWE Regional Network were very pleased to welcome Aalok Sonawala, Head of PMO, National Programmes, Rider Levett Bucknall on 26 February, to BAWA for our first face to face event of 2025. Aalok is a member of APM’s Thames Valley Regional Network and also speaks to members of APM’s PMO Interest Network, which aims to facilitate collaboration and learning, offer unbiased advice and guidance.
Tonight, Aalok planned to discuss the importance of a PMO within project-based organisations, the different types of PMO and their key elements, PMO governance and centres of excellence.
PMO’s within an organisation can be centralised, hub and spoke with a central PMO with satellite PMOs globally, or embedded within projects. The appropriate structure will be determined by the specific business needs of the organisation. The PMO sits above PM delivery and the supply chain delivery teams.

Clean Republic is a garage-based company that markets an e-bike conversion kit for the do-it-yourselfer as well as its Hill Topper electric bike kit -- basically a ready-to-install bike wheel with built-in electric assist motor. The beauty of the Clean Republic Hill Topper is that it installs in just about 3 minutes and it’s relatively inexpensive. It's available with an 11-pound sealed lead acid (SLA) battery pack that delivers a 10-mile range or a more expensive lithium battery that weighs about 6 pounds and gives a 20-mile range. The Clean Republic Hill Topper is intended to assist, not replace the rider; as anyone who has been to Seattle knows, a little help on the hills can be very handy.

On the flip side, Smart Cars are also incredibly fuel-efficient, getting as much as 85 mpg using conventional fuel. Cab 4 One also offers a bike rescue service designed to pick up stranded cyclists. Cab 4 One was created to help green up the taxi industry. Cab 4 One smartly noticed that a lot of big gas-hogging sedans were being used to ferry around only one or two passengers at a time. Why not let people drive themselves and help out the environment at the same time? Currently, Cab 4 One is only available to travelers in the U.K. with no announced plans of expansion.
