Summary of the work carried out during PhD
A double pretreatment/hydrolysis method was chosen for getting soluble sugars. The solid biomass achieved after different alkaline pretreatment methods was subjected to further treatment with sulfuric acid. Thus, polymeric sugars were hydrolyzed to get monomeric fermentable sugars. The acid hydrolysate then neutralized by using calcium hydroxide and concentrated to desired concentration of sugars. The concentrated acid hydrolysate thus obtained was subjected to detoxification using charcoal powder. The fermentation of acid hydrolysate (un-detoxified and detoxified) was carried out using Scheffersomyces stipitis.
