After graduating as a physician in 1985 at the Erasmus University Rotterdam I worked from 1986-1990 with Doctors without Borders (MSF) in Peru, Belize and Rumania. After a Public Health degree in 1991 I worked as a health advisor with the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) from 1992-1995 in Nicaragua and from 1995-1998 in Colombia.
