Previously he was the Assistant Chief Coastguard and Chief John has worked on reviews and feasibility studies on maritime safety and security and SAR system development matters in a number of countries around the world, including nine projects for the International Maritime Organization (UN), and a number of projects for the EU. John is also a consultant to the International Maritime Organization on maritime safety, SAR and security.
