Traditional forms of professional development for teachers typically have low impact because they involve brief lectures that are not sustained over time and do not effectively transform classroom practices. A study found that less than 1% of 75 training opportunities were transformative. One teacher joked that they hoped to "die during a training session" because the transition from life to death would be less noticeable, reflecting the passive nature of most sessions where teachers feel they have little control and cannot relate the training to their everyday work.
