As a Mental Health Specialist I was hand picked to be a core unit staff member for the most challenging segment of the residential population. I was trained in both Handle With Care for physical restraint purposes and Mode Deactivation Therapy for verbal de-escalation of potentially volatile situations. As part of my daily responsibilities I lead goal and psychological education group sessions with up to ten residents and carefully documented patient responses and behaviors. As part of my role I meticulously documented patient location, behavioral status, overall compliance with treatment plans, and any special incidents involving patient safety or aggressive acts.
