#2: Why do FR practices differ so much from one organization to another?
FR is part art, part science but the art seems to bleed over to the science side
Are nonprofits really all that different from one another?
#3: Anyone know what this chemical composition is?
#4: Penicillin was discovered in 1928 by Scottish scientist Alexander Fleming.[3] People began using it to treat infections in 1942
Albert Alexander was a constable in the police force of the County of Oxford, England.[1] In December 1940, Constable Alexander was accidentally scratched by a rose thorn in his mouth. He was treated, got better but supplies ran out and he subsequently died
A 10-day prescription might be appropriate for strep throat, but a simple urinary tract infection can be conquered in a briefer period
#12: Can there really be that many best practices?
Should SOI provide more options?
Should Harvard Magazine use unusual dollar amounts?
Should St. Judes ask me to convert to monthly? With a custom URL?
Should Perkins really go down and up?
Should Parkinsons give me lower priced options?
Should 20/20/20 drive them me to a web site?
Should any of them use $ signs? Restaurants no longer do?
Should you base the string on last gift amount? Largest gift amount? Largest in last 5 years? Largest given via DM?
How many such appeals should I get per year colleges 3 then 5 then 7, national charities 12 then 15 then 18; they make $?
Or should Chuck receive a custom string?
That incorporates demographics men gives higher gift amounts than women? Older people have higher retention & AG
That incorporates income Chuck gives much more to many organizations
That incorporates passion
When should Chuck come out of the DM stream and get better stewardship? Tell TNC story
#13: Describe Tammy Rudas varsity sports, legacy, financial aid modeling. Dont get stuck on an amount.
#14: Griff Freyschlag, VP Development, came from university
7 major gift officers
More than 65% of revenue comes from $1000+ gifts $14 or $21M (not TNC but more than most)
1.5% of TNCs donors give $1000+. This is ~10,000 donors of 664k donors. The 10K give $600 M and the 654k give $50M
.3% give $10k+ and this is almost all of the $600M
#15: David Preston
10% gave sustainers 3 years ago. Approaching 40% this year with 10% total revenue increase 2 years in a row.
#16: Describe Tammy Rudas varsity sports, legacy, financial aid modeling. Dont get stuck on an amount.
#17: Thank you to the 3,376 alumni, parents, students, faculty and staff, and friends who made a gift in support of Scarlet & Give Back Day. We are proud of the extraordinary generosity displayed by Grinnellians worldwide. Todays donor total has set a new one-day record for donors to the College.Because of the tremendous number of donors, we successfully met two donor challenges and unlocked $1.1 million in matching gifts.

#18: And that is the challenge! Balancing the Art and Science of Fundraising.
Art sometimes bleeds over to the Science.
Benchmarking can help. Asking why does another organization outperform ours? If its not our donors, could it be our practices.
Use some of the above examples: sustainers, ask strings, major giving.
Earthjustice donors give to an average of 22 other non-profits! (they do a lot of exchanges called cross promotion from advocacy)
