Teaching, writing, researching, and creating in a way that is consistent with the way things really work determines the difference between an experience people connect with and are inspired by, and an experience people just do not get. My grandfather was a carpenter. He taught me to always sand wood with the grain of the wood. In order to work with the grain of something, you have to know it's nature. You have to see the direction of the grain. This is easy in a piece of wood, but how do you do that with an intangible thing? That is what I do.
