I recently moved from being an Illustrator at an animation studio to being a software engineer at the same studio. The move hinged on the fact that I saw countless hours being spent on menial tasks that could easily be scripted, and that time takes a huge toll on people's creative output. Since I had an engineering background, I decided to take charge and slowly build scripts that would automate many of these repetitive tasks.
Those small improvements later led to other projects: communication tools, documentation improvements, asset managers... Pretty soon I was designing and developing software full-time and I haven't looked back.
