This document outlines a research project on transnational television in East Asia. It will examine how transnational TV flows affect national identities in Korea, Japan, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Researchers will study the history of television and its internationalization in each country. They will look at differences and similarities in national identity, globalization, audience reception, and the role of government and the internet. Individual researchers have started examining specific nations. The project aims to understand how transnational TV challenges and reinforces national identity.
