I was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) September 25, 2000 and was forced to retire March 3,2001. As thedisease progressed, I was forced to have a feeding tube surgically installed in January 2002, and in late March 2003, had a tracheotomy and was permanently placed on a vent. Since my diagnosis, I've taken up cooking (until my arms and hands stopped working), recipe collecting, movie collecting, participated in a drug study for ALS, was a patient-volunteer in a Medical School Neurology Class on Guess My Disorder Day, this is my 7th year as a guest Professor in a first year Medical School class on Critical Care for Terminal Patients in the Home Environment (Palliative Care).
