This young couple met in England where John was studying water conservation abroad. Lizzie grew up in the English countryside where she grew a passion for gardening. She pursued a degree in landscape design. Her Specialty focused on the use of succulent plants. Lizzie was hoping to bring the feeling of the English countryside into her home by using raw stones and woods throughout the space, mimicking the contrast between the green rolling hills and the tones of blue in the ocean. The part she is going to miss the most about England is the history. Lizzie loves the simplicity of nature and is looking for a modern design style. Passionate her plants, Lizzie asked to display as much of her designs as possible. She also asked for a large master bedroom and a bathtub in the master bathroom. Assuming her mother will be utilizing the living room a lot, lizzie anticipates having a lounge space in her bedroom where she can relax. As a hydrogeologist, John requested the use of Eco- Friendly products into his home, especially cautious of water conservation. John was looking for a cozy sanctuary Ìýwhere he could have privacy from Lizzie s mother, who will also be living with them. John loves to cook and Ìýasked for a modern gourmet kitchen, with a built in coffee maker. John s family also lives in Pennsylvania and he would like a space that allows his entire family to join them for dinner. With the intent to entertain, John wanted the kitchen to be directly connected to the dining room with a wine fridge conveniently located between both Ìýspaces. Lizzie s mother, Bridget requested a large window in her room so she can have natural lighting and for her bedroom to be close to a bathroom. Her bedroom and bathroom both had to be ADA compliant because Bridget was in a wheel chair. They plan to use the first floor as a succulent boutique, where Lizzie can continue Ìýher passion s for succulent design. Design Solutions: Inspired by the English countryside, this small yet lavish home creates a very clean and sophisticated look. Dark natural stones in combination with raw woods establish a stylish contrast between warm and cool tones. Touches of rustic and modern style intermingling construct a well-balanced home. A serene flooring allows all accents and finishes to be the focal points. With the use of succulent plants dispersed throughout the space, a touch of the outdoors will be a part of every room. Entering the space, you are greeted with the dining room where a large untreated wood table is paired with two bench style seats. An accent wall behind the dining room table was designed to display Lizzies unique succulent designs. To the left is a modern, sleek gourmet kitchen where John cooks for his family. Prep and storage space is amplified with an eight-foot island that provides a utility sink, dish washer, six large cabinets and four large drawers. Railway pendants are placed over the four places at the bar stools connected to the island. The natural dark blue soapstone contrasts with the lightly muted grey wood cabinets. An extravagant stove from Wolf is placed on the back wall. Two feet of prep space is provided on either side of the stove, also dressed in the blue soapstone that is carried up the wall to the ceiling, providing a backsplash. A delicate glass hood ventilation is placed above the stove. The remaining wall is floor to ceiling cabinets, providing plenty of storage. The back wall hides the existing columns that were within the space. Stepping around the half wall, is a lavish living room. A modern entertainment center was built into the largest wall. Sleek built in cabinets are the base of the entertainment center with a flat screen television placed on top. ÌýFloating shelves are placed to the left of the flat screen, displaying succulent plants alongside Lizzie and John s extensive collection of books. A large modern sofa is placed into the corner, under the half wall creating an open Ìýspace for entertaining. A large ottoman is placed in the center offering more seating for when John s family visits. Unique iron lighting and untreated wooden tables were placed to bring raw materials into this room. Walking through the living room, a privet hall way escorts John and Lizzie into their lavish master suite. A pop out window features a lounge space where Lizzie can relax. A large king sized bed is centered on the back wall over a medallion patterned rug. To the right of the bed is a sliding barn door that unveils the lush master bathroom. Natural drift wood tile is on the back wall lightening up the space. A large glass shower is place on the left hand side with a bench and adjustable shower head in an oil rubbed bronze. Georgeson faucet from kohler with a dark round sink is featured on a white onyx counter top that illuminates the space. Dark custom cabinets contrast with the light flooring and wall tiles. A cast iron free standing tub is placed on the wall adjacent to the sinks. Walking past the lavish shower, a privet toilet room is just past the eighty square foot closet. The closet and toilet room provide extra noise barrier between the master bedroom and spare bedroom that is on the other side. The location of the master bathroom also provides an extra barrier between adjacent spaces, making the master bedroom extremely privet. Tracing back to the dining room, walking down the hall way is a laundry room with a utility sink and a window for ventilation. Floor to ceiling cabinets are placed to the right of the washer and dryer. On the opposite side of Ìýthe laundry room is a powder bathroom for guests when they are entertaining. Down the hall is Bridget s bedroom that is ADA compliant with two points where a wheel chair can complete a turn around. Her bedroom has a large pop out with several large windows providing plenty of natural light. There is also a large flat screen with a queen bed and spacious closet. Next to her bedroom is an ADA compliant bathroom with an accessible shower, water compliant toilet with adjacent hand bars in an oil rubbed bronze. in front of the toilet is clearance for a complete wheel chair turn. A sleek sink with an oil rubbed bronze faucet has clearance for easy access. ÌýThis bathroom is kept very minimalist to help any obstructions it might cause to Bridget s wheel chair. A black soapstone over muted grey cabinets, creates an excellent contrast. White and tan tiles are used on all the walls Ìýleaving the soapstone and wood as the focal points. Next to Bridget s room is a spare bedroom where guests enjoy a queen sized bed and flat screen. In the hall way is extra cabinets for storage.
