The long eared owl is 37 cm in size with a 100 cm wingspan, colored yellow, brown and black. It nests 5 to 10 meters off the ground in old nests lined with bark strips, laying clutches of 3 to 8 eggs which are incubated for 25 to 30 days. Juvenile owls leave the nest for nearby branches at 3 weeks but cannot fly until 5 weeks, and the owls have a lifespan of about 10 years.
