This document discusses applying Amartya Sen's Capabilities Approach to examine occupational rights for persons with spinal cord injuries in communities. It presents Sen's framework, which assesses people's real opportunities and freedoms based on their functionings (what they can do) and capabilities (potential functionings). An example is given of how this approach evaluates a person in a wheelchair's capabilities and agency to participate in activities like banking, shopping, and movies based on their individual characteristics and the physical, social, and economic environment. The document advocates for non-discriminatory policies and accommodations to enhance capabilities and rights for people with disabilities.
