This document discusses options, opinions, and results regarding on-demand and client-server collaboration software. It notes that on-demand software provides benefits like immediate access, low costs, and real-time updates but with minimal IT involvement, while client-server options require more IT resources and costs. Results from using on-demand software included reduced deployment and project information access times, archived documentation, and savings equivalent to two salaries annually.
The document discusses the evolution of the web from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0, highlighting differences in technologies and how users interact with content. It provides examples of early companies and platforms that paved the way for new generations. Social networking is described as a major aspect of Web 2.0, with details provided on the rise of Facebook from its origins in 2004 to widespread popularity in recent years. This document proposes an ecological learning design framework. It begins by discussing existing frameworks around knowledge ecologies and their focus on information, meanings, networks, and connections. However, these frameworks do not clearly explain how ecology functions. The document then elaborates on deepening the ecological approach to emphasize the central role of activities in knowledge ecologies. It proposes components for a learning ecology framework, including that knowledge is distributed and inheres in social practices and relationships between people, tools, and environments involved in activities. Networks are interpreted as dynamically evolving activity systems.
Lift08 Workshop led by Thomas Purves Deck produced during the workshop Open and the Future of Wireless at Lift08 and led by Thomas Purves. A group of two dozen telecom industry veterans, entrepreneurs, interactive designers and other Lifters gathered for 3 hours at Lift 08 discuss an idea of Lift and the future of wireless. There was of course an ulterior motive, which was to inform and inspire a wireless future for Canada base on the ideas and experience of European and International mobile innovators.

Designing systems for managing dynamic collaborative research processesscottw

This document summarizes a workshop on designing systems for managing collaborative research processes. It discusses why collaborative research workflows are important given an emphasis on collaborative work in funding. It explores potential research process characteristics and benefits and risks of automating such processes. It then analyzes different aspects of collaborative research processes like work distribution, monitoring, audit, self-organization, and strategy using concepts from cybernetics and the Viable Systems Model. Finally, it discusses observations that collaborative processes require more flexible approaches than traditional business process management methods allow and outlines areas for future work.
Apache HTTP Server is an open-source web server software that is the most widely used web server on the Internet, with over 70% of websites using it. Apache has a modular design that allows it to run on multiple platforms and perform different functions through modules like Multi-Processing Modules and additional modules for caching, compression, logging, and more. Developers can select which modules to include at compile-time or run-time to customize Apache for different environments and needs.

The document provides instructions for students to work in groups to design a building for a playground city. It outlines several steps for the activity, including choosing roles as architect, engineer or contractor; identifying shapes used in example buildings; using newspaper and tape to build solid figures; discussing how different building types meet different needs; understanding how architectural design can convey feelings; and finally working as a group to plan and describe their own building design.
Sally used to be a successful model, but had her career cut short after a serious car accident left her unable to walk. She now uses virtual reality to simulate her past modeling lifestyle of constant photoshoots, parties, and fashion shows. In virtual reality, she is popular, in demand, and living out her dreams of traveling the world. However, it is revealed that Sally's entire lavish lifestyle now takes place only in the virtual world, as she refuses to accept her current reality after the accident and lives only to relive her past through simulation.
The document outlines an agenda for a digital storytelling workshop that will teach participants about digital storytelling and have them create their own short digital stories. The workshop will include an introduction to digital storytelling, a sample walkthrough, time for participants to create stories using tools of their choice, and a final sharing of a compilation video of all the stories created. Participants will be split into groups and each individual will film a 10-second clip conveying their thoughts about education using only 3 words. The document also provides examples of different types of digital stories and lists tools that can be used for digital storytelling creation.
HH Brown is proposing a new consumer analytics platform called Stylita that would use a user's fashion preferences to provide unbiased recommendations and connect them with similar customers. Stylita would analyze users through a mobile or web app to discover their true fashion tastes, help them feel confident in their choices, and link them with others of similar tastes, while also providing analytics to HH Brown brands. Future ideas for Stylita include expanding recommendations based on occasions, adding social sharing and a products page, and improving the analytics and community features.
