- 1. February 18, 2015 To Whom It May Concern: I am writing in regards to Makenzie Sodens application for employment. It has been a pleasure knowing Makenzie for more than 10 years through community volunteer activities and more recently as his employer. Makenzie is currently coordinating and operating our ski clubs Tim Hortons Skiing in the School Yard program. He is responsible to promote the program to schools in our area and Makenzie has it fully booked this winter, 5 days per week. Not only does he coordinate detail bookings such as boots sizes in advance, he teaches skiing skills to each class and leads them through fun games on skis in their school yard. This requires high energy and commitment to be outside at the school an hour before the students to prepare equipment and be positive and enthusiastic throughout the full school day. Makenzie learns quickly and is willing to take on full responsibility. He was comfortable and professional promoting the program with school Principals. After one day together at a school, Makenzie assumed full responsibility for the program. His commitment was evident as he chose to check the internet at 6am to ensure busses were running and the weather was suitable. When met with obstacles such as cold weather, Makenzie creatively adjusted the days schedule to ensure the program did not need to be cancelled. He built a good relationship with another ski instructor in the community so when cancellation was unavoidable, the two instructors could work together another day to include all the students. Makenzie is passionate about everything in nature, particularly birds. He has a positive, kind personality and is very perceptive of the needs of people around him.
