Marshonn S. Calvin, Sr. is a 1998 graduate of Rust College who majored in broadcast journalism. He began his television career in 1997 as an intern at NBC News in New York City. Since then, he has held various roles in television production and engineering at stations in Mississippi. In 2008, he moved to Millington Central High School to develop their broadcasting program and design their television studio. Under his leadership, the program has won several awards and he continues to produce graduation ceremonies and promotional videos for the school. He is grateful for his successful career in broadcasting and for his family, which includes being a husband and father of three children.

1. Marshonn S. Calvin, Sr.
Marshonn S. Calvin, Sr. is a native of Kankakee, Illinois, and a 1998 graduate of Rust
College located in Holly Springs, Mississippi where he majored in Broadcast Journalism/
Mass Communications. He began his television career while in college (1997) at NBC
News World Headquarters at Rockefeller Plaza, New York, NY. Conducted daily research
and evaluated world issues and journalism programs. While at NBC he critiqued and
performed content analysis of soap opera Another World and various other programs
on the NBC News Television Network. he performed television production responsibilities
for Staff and Network Executives of the NBC Broadcast & Network Operations
Department at Rockefeller Plaza.
He also did a second internship in (1997) for The NBC East Coast Operations
Department at Brooklyn Studios in Brooklyn, NY. Performed television production
responsibilities for the Staff of the soap opera Another World and Network Executives
of NBC East Coast Operations Department at Brooklyn Studios in Brooklyn, New York.
He then went on to work at (NBC) WTVA News Channel 9, in Tupelo, Mississippi where
he worked as Floor Manager/Engineering Operator until my graduation from Rust
College in 1998. Shortly after that, he was promoted on to Floor Manager/Engineering
Operator at (CBS) WREG News Channel 3. During this time Marshonn did freelance
work for ESPN, Fox Sports Network, CBS Sports. Marshonn left News Channel 3 for a
position at (NBC) WMC TV-5 (WMC Action News 5) where he worked as Floor Manager,
and Crew Chief and managed all newscast studio operations, Supervised Station Tours,
and all Engineering Operations responsibilities such as: Electronic News Gathering
(ENG) Operations, Audio Engineering, Master Control Operations, Tape Duplication,
and Prop Construction. Marshonn stayed at WMC for 10 years and moved on to develop
the broadcasting program and design the television studio lab facility at Millington
Central High School. Mr. Calvin has built an regional and national Award winning
broadcasting program during his almost 13 year tenure at Millington Central High
School.
Marshonn is a 2013 Rust College Mass Communications Trail Blazer Award Recipient,
Broadcasting Students Breana Maclin won the Silver and Janesha Cade won Bronze in
The 2016 National Telly Awards for filmmaking earlier this month, He produces and
directs The Millington Central High School Graduation program (2003-Present). He
oversees the Senior Video Programs every year. Broadcasting student Noah Ongay won
1st Place in the Memphis Regional NAACP ACT-SO (Afro-Academic, Cultural,
Technological and Scientific Olympics) on March 12, 2015. Mr. Calvins broadcasting
students place ever year since 2005 in The Memphis Regional NAACP ACT-SO for
2. Filmmaking. He has produced and directed Promotional Recruitment Videos about
Millington Central High School (2003-Present). Nominated Educator of the Week by: The
Memphis Education Association, and The Tennessee State Lottery in (February of 2007
and March of 2011). Instituted all broadcasting equipment for The Trojan TV News
Department (2003). Designed the layout of the broadcasting production editing suites
and studio lab facility on the campus of Millington Central High School in (2003) and in
the new plans for the new lab facility in (2011). He is also a proud member of The Most
Worshipful Tennessee Grand Lodge of Prince Hall Free and Accepted Masons.
Although hes grateful for his career, hes most grateful for being the husband of Tamela
Woods-Calvin and a father of three wonderful children Marshonn Jr., Micah and Matthew
Calvin. Tamela and Marshonn are so excited and honored to have a national internet radio
show that theyve been asked to host called, "The Marriage Walk, A Road to Agape Love".
