How to Authenticate This Official Transcript
From the University of South Carolina
This official transcript has been transmitted electronically to the recipient, and is intended solely for use by
that recipient. If you are not the intended recipient, please notify the Office of the University Registrar at
the University of South Carolina. It is not permissible to replicate this document or forward it to any
person or organization other than the identified recipient. Release of this record or disclosure of its
contents to any third party without written consent of the record owner is prohibited.
This official transcript has been digitally signed and therefore contains special characteristics. If this
document has been issued by the University of South Carolina, and this document is viewed using
Adobe® Acrobat version 6.0 or greater, or Adobe® Reader version 6.04 or greater, it will reveal a digital
certificate that has been applied to the transcript. This digital certificate will appear in a pop-up screen or
status bar on the document, display a blue ribbon, and declare that the document was certified by the
University of South Carolina with a valid certificate issued by GeoTrust CA for Adobe®. This document
certification can be validated by clicking on the Signature Properties of the document.
The blue ribbon symbol is your assurance that the digital certificate is valid, the document is
authentic, and the contents of the transcript have not been altered.
If the transcript does not display a valid certification and signature message, reject this transcript
immediately. An invalid digital certificate display means either the digital signature is not
authentic, or the document has been altered. The digital signature can also be revoked by the
transcript office if there is cause, and digital signatures can expire. A document with an invalid
digital signature display should be rejected.
Lastly, one other possible message, Author Unknown, can have two possible meanings: The
certificate is a self-signed certificate or has been issued by an unknown or untrusted certificate
authority and therefore has not been trusted, or the revocation check could not complete. If you
receive this message make sure you are properly connected to the internet. If you have a
connection and you still cannot validate the digital certificate on-line, reject this document.
The transcript key and guide to transcript evaluation is the last page of this document.
The current version of Adobe® Reader is free of charge, and available for immediate download at
http://www.adobe.com.
If you require further information regarding the authenticity of this transcript, you may email or call the
Office of the University Registrar at the University of South Carolina at registrar@sc.edu or 803-777-
5555.

UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA / OFFICE OF THE UNIVERSITY REGISTRAR
COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA 29208-0001 Phone: (803) 777-5555 Fax: (803) 777-6349
ACCREDITATION: The University of South Carolina is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of
Colleges and Schools to award degrees from the associate degree to the doctoral level. In addition to this comprehensive accreditation,
the professional schools within the Columbia campus are individually accredited by their respective associations.
CALENDAR: The University of South Carolina operates under the semester calendar. The unit of credit is a semester hour which, in
general, represents one hour per week of lecture or two or more hours per week of laboratory for a semester of sixteen weeks. Courses
may be taught in other shortened sessions, but must meet for a minimum of 700 minutes per credit hour.
ELIGIBILITY FOR READMISSION: Unless a statement to the contrary is shown as the last entry on the record, a student is eligible
to apply for readmission. Disciplinary dismissals are not noted on the academic record.
SYMBOLS: Courses taken off the Columbia campus are designated by the following letters preceding the course number.
COURSE NUMBERING SYSTEM: Courses numbered from 100 to 699 are taken at different levels for undergraduate credit. All courses
numbered 100 to 499 are for associate and baccalaureate degree candidates. Courses numbered 500 to 699 may be taken for
undergraduate or graduate credit and are open to advanced undergraduates. Courses numbered 700 to 899 may be taken for graduate
credit only.
SOUTH CAROLINA HONORS COLLEGE: The SCCC and SCHC acronym indicates courses offered by the South Carolina Honors
College, which are either honors versions of regular University courses or special proseminars. Courses average 14 students, tend to
be in a discussion format, foster strong faculty-student rapport, and frequently include intensive work on individual or group projects.
EXPLANATION OF TOTALS:
Hours Carried (HC) - Course hours for which the student was enrolled
Hours Earned (HE) - Course hours passed
GPA Hours (GH) - Course hours used in computing the grade point average
Grade Points (GP) - GPA hours times the value of the grade. Grading is on a 4-point scale.
Separate grade totals are kept on undergraduate, graduate, law and medical records. Transfer hours earned include collegiate level
course work, credit by exam, credit for military experience and work earned at foreign institutions. All collegiate course work earned is
used to determine graduation honors.

The blue ribbon symbol is your assurance that the digital certificate is valid, the document is authentic, and the contents of the transcript have not been altered. If the transcript does not display a valid certification and signature message, reject this transcript immediately. An invalid digital certificate display means either the digital signature is not authentic, or the document has been altered. The digital signature can also be revoked by the transcript office if there is cause, and digital signatures can expire. A document with an invalid digital signature display should be rejected. Lastly, one other possible message, Author Unknown, can have two possible meanings: The certificate is a self-signed certificate or has been issued by an unknown or untrusted certificate authority and therefore has not been trusted, or the revocation check could not complete. If you receive this message make sure you are properly connected to the internet. If you have a connection and you still cannot validate the digital certificate on-line, reject this document. TRANSCRIPT GUIDE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA / OFFICE OF THE UNIVERSITY REGISTRAR COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA 29208-0001 Phone: (803) 777-5555 Fax: (803) 777-6349 ACCREDITATION: The University of South Carolina is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award degrees from the associate degree to the doctoral level. In addition to this comprehensive accreditation, the professional schools within the Columbia campus are individually accredited by their respective associations. CALENDAR: The University of South Carolina operates under the semester calendar. The unit of credit is a semester hour which, in general, represents one hour per week of lecture or two or more hours per week of laboratory for a semester of sixteen weeks. Courses may be taught in other shortened sessions, but must meet for a minimum of 700 minutes per credit hour. ELIGIBILITY FOR READMISSION: Unless a statement to the contrary is shown as the last entry on the record, a student is eligible to apply for readmission. All courses numbered 100 to 499 are for associate and baccalaureate degree candidates. Courses numbered 500 to 699 may be taken for undergraduate or graduate credit and are open to advanced undergraduates. Courses numbered 700 to 899 may be taken for graduate credit only. SOUTH CAROLINA HONORS COLLEGE: The SCCC and SCHC acronym indicates courses offered by the South Carolina Honors College, which are either honors versions of regular University courses or special proseminars. Courses average 14 students, tend to be in a discussion format, foster strong faculty-student rapport, and frequently include intensive work on individual or group projects. EXPLANATION OF TOTALS: Hours Carried (HC) - Course hours for which the student was enrolled Hours Earned (HE) - Course hours passed GPA Hours (GH) - Course hours used in computing the grade point average Grade Points (GP) - GPA hours times the value of the grade. Grading is on a 4-point scale. Separate grade totals are kept on undergraduate, graduate, law and medical records. Transfer hours earned include collegiate level course work, credit by exam, credit for military experience and work earned at foreign institutions. All collegiate course work earned is used to determine graduation honors.
