Mary Lou Springstead was born and raised in Brooksville, Florida. In 1992, she graduated from a liberal arts university named Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida with a BA in Studio Art. She received her MA in Art Therapy in 1996 from Florida State University, completing over 250 hours of community service. She developed a fascination for archetypes, personal symbology and the therapeutic use of the visual art process. Springstead’s influences are Expressionism, Surrealism, Feminist Art, Visionary Art, Outsider Art, Indigenous Art, Political Art and Lowbrow Art.
