Political relations
Mali and France maintain close, trusting relations for reasons of history and culture (with the French language, in particular) as well as community (there is a very large Malian diaspora in France).
Political relations are excellent, with many bilateral visits since 2002, in particular President Touré’s visits to France (official visit in September 2002). The French President made an official visit to Mali in October 2003. President ATT went to France in October 2007, and again in November 2008 for the European Development Days in Strasbourg. He was received by the French President on 28 May 2009 and had a meeting with the Minister of Foreign and European Affair
