CREATING CAPTIONS
Caption is an explanation for a picture or an illustration, especially in a magazine or newspaper Caption usually appears below pictures, photos, graphics, posters, and even tables. Captions are usually also used to emphasize the content of an article, essay, or report. WHAT IS CAPTION?
To tell the reader or viewer about whats happening in the picture, video, table or graph. THE FUNCTION OF CAPTION
TYPES OF CAPTION TEXT 1) Identification bar This type of caption, only mentions who is in the picture.
TYPES OF CAPTION TEXT 2) Cutline This type of caption says what is in the picture and what the person is doing.
TYPES OF CAPTION TEXT 3) Summary This type of caption contains a more complete explanation of the people in the picture, what they did when it happened, and why they did it.
TYPES OF CAPTION TEXT 4) Expanded The form of this type of text is more complete than a summary and this type of text contains various events and their quotes.
TYPES OF CAPTION TEXT 5) Group Identification This type of caption is the same as the type of identification bar caption except that this type is used if the image contains more than one person.
TYPES OF CAPTION TEXT 6) Quotes This type of text contains quotes from someone related to the displayed image.
Language Features of Captions Several linguistic features are usually used in captions, including: Questions Exclamations Prepositional phrases infinitive phrases Adjective phrases
