E-Stuff on a Laptop: How to enjoy eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines on your Laptop or PC
1) Begin by visiting the Randolph County Public Library website: http://randolphlibrary.org Have your library card handy and remember your PIN. Click on Digital Media.
2)You can access the Librarys collection of eBooks (Digital Depot from Overdrive), eAudiobooks (RBdigital), and eMagazines (RBdigital) from this page. Click on Digital Depot to set up your Library eBook account.
3) On the Digital Depot home page, click Sign in to create or open your account. Find a book using the search box or subject headings. Note the availability icon on the top of each book cover. Green icons saying available are available for checkout. Books with a white icon that say Wait List are unavailable, but you can place a request. Click on a book cover to initiate checkout. Lending period is for 3 weeks.
4) After you make a selection, the simplest way to read ebooks is to choose Read In Browser. This will open up a separate window with the book now available to read. Click on Return anytime to send it back and check out more. *Be aware that you can have up to 5 ebooks out at a time and 3 on hold. 5) To change reading settings (e.g. text scale or font) you just have to click on the options found in the top left hand corner.
6) You also have the option of downloading the Overdrive app Libby to read eBooks on your laptop. The simplest way to download this software is scroll to the bottom of the Digital Depot home page and in the bottom right corner of the screen click on either the Windows icon if you have a Windows operating system or the Mac icon in your are using Apple. *You will need to set up a unique username and password to use this app.
7) For eAudiobooks, return to the Librarys Digital Media page and click on rbdigital (formally OneClickDigital) to set up your account.
8) Click on Register and fill out the form. You will need your library card number and will create a unique, new account through RBdigital to fully register.
9) After you complete your registration, click on any audiobook cover to initiate checkout. You can checkout three eAudiobooks at a time. 11) To view your checked out items, click on the navicon in the top left corner of the screen. This will open a side screen allowing several different options. Click checked out on the side screen and then click on the desired book cover to open up a selected audiobook.
12) The simplest way to listen to audiobooks on your PC or laptop is to listen in your browser. To do this click on the audiobook cover and then select what chapter you want to listen to. You can also return books early on this screen. *Selecting Download requires extra software to listen to the book.
13) To set up your account for eMagazines, return to the Librarys Digital Media page and click on magazines (now combined with RBdigital) to set up your account.
14) Once you arrive on the home page, click on Create New Account to get started. Use your library card number to fill out the form. *If youve already set up an account with Rbdigital for e-audiobooks then you are already set up for magazines. Use the same username/password to Login. Magazines and audiobooks are now combined on RBdigital!
15) Once you have filled out the form and created an account just search for magazines to subscribe to. Click on a magazine cover and then click Checkout to begin reading.
