I am a 26 year colon cancer survivor, ostomate and patient advocate working with numerous cancer and ostomy support organizations. I have survived colorectal cancer and believe that anyone battling cancer from the moment of diagnosis becomes a cancer survivor. Our journeys as cancer survivors vary in length, difficulty and outcome. Our paths are diverse, but share many common elements. Denial, fear, anger, confusion, defiance and acceptance are some of the common elements. A successful journey takes a special attitude, a determination to take control of our situation and rise to the fight of our lives, win the battle, survive the cure and enjoy the journey.
