Origin of Vacalares
Vacalar -Municipality of Vacalar, Armamar, Portugal. Said
to be the area in which most young men were recruited
by Ferdinand Magellan (birth name in Portuguese:
Fernão de Magalhães, as his personal crew and traveled
with him on the same ship to circum navigate the world.
Magellan was born around 1480 at Sabrosa, near Vila
Real, in the province of Tras-os-Montes, in Portugal. 5.3
miles away from Vacalar, Armamar, in which there he
started convincing his relatives and friends to join him in
his expedition.
