The document discusses different graphic compositional strategies that can be used when arranging images or art elements in a collage. It lists strategies such as size and scale, depth and perspective, color, grid, schematic, rule of thirds, radial balance, geometric, abstract, balanced symmetrical, and balanced asymmetrical. Each strategy has a different effect on how the artwork is viewed. The document encourages creativity and challenges the reader to find images from National Geographic magazines to use in their collage.

Collage-Compisitional Strategies Powerpoint
1. Graphic
Compositional
Strategies
These are simply different ways of
arranging images or art elements.
One artwork may use one or more of the
following strategies. Each has a different
effect on how we view the artwork.
All artworks are from

4. Notice where artworks play
with
Size and Scale (How big things are!)
Depth + Perspective (Tricking peoples
eye with perception)
Colour to create mood
Remember you can only use images
from National Geographic. You WILL be
challenged by what you can find!
CREATIVITY
10. Grid- a network of lines
that cross each other to
form a series of squares or
rectangles
12. Schematic- (of a diagram or other
representation) symbolic and simplified
representation of process. Generally used in
scientific or manufacturing drawings.
13. Rule of Thirds- In the rule of thirds, photos
are divided into thirds with two imaginary
lines vertically and two lines horizontally
making three columns, three rows, and nine
sections in the images. Important
compositional elements and leading lines are
placed on or near the imaginary lines and
where the lines intersect.
16. Radial balance is not
very common in artist's
compositions, but it is
like a daisy or sunflower
with everything arranged
around a center. Rose
windows of cathedrals
use this design system.
