Many years ago in Chapel Hill, NC, I (a journalism major), sat in Econ 101 (my nightmare), painfully trying to understand the law of diminishing returns. It wasn't until the professor proclaimed, "The law of diminshing returns is like eating dounuts," that I finally got it. I've always loved a good donut, and regrettably, have too much experience in overindulging. So while I don't remember much else from the class, I clearly recall being inspired by the simplicity of the donut comparison and have made it my career to make complicated topics, simple.
