We are able to see how depressed Matt really is throughout the play when we learn that he never really got over how Davis stole his girlfriend, and that Matt is jealous of Davis always getting what he wants. What is at stake for Matt in the play is his life. He had thought about suicide many times and had even attempted it once before. Although people may think that because of all that he has went through he will only get stronger, that is wrong. He seems to only be getting weaker and weaker as more happens to him.Â
