My research focuses on control mechanisms for large, distributed information systems in real-time applications. Visions of 21st century information systems show highly networked devices in continuous interaction. The computer itself vanishes from the desktop–the network is the computer. The computational devices will be invisible for our eyes and weave into the fabric of everyday life, e.g. in clothes, furniture, and medical equipment (cf. Ubiquitous Computing, Ambient Intelligence). The devices are continuously connected to a global network and information infrastructure with unlimited computational power and problem-solving ability (cf. Grid Computing).
