Govt. Polytechnic Institute Haripur was established in 1968-1969 on 240 kanal of land. It was founded by late Field Marshal and ex-President of Pakistan Muhammad Ayub Khan. The institute offers diploma programs in civil, electrical, mechanical, telecom, and electronics technologies, as well as short courses. It has a total of 102 teaching and non-teaching staff positions. The institute aims to provide quality technical education to eliminate poverty. It currently has around 1500 students and needs equipment upgrades, modern computers, and building repairs. The principal is taking steps like civil works, establishing an advanced electronics lab, and launching a website to further develop the institute.
