At the beginning of his career in medical services, Todd Belok worked as an emergency medical technician (EMT) for American Medical Response. He performed basic life support for patients in transit to health-care facilities in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC. Later, he served with the Psychiatric Institute of Washington as a psychiatric technician and then with Children’s National Medical Center as a patient care technician for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). At Children’s National Medical Center, Todd Belok carried out nursing interventions, aided in medical procedures, and managed an NICU pilot program for improving the quality of newborn metabolic screening.
