The Governors Academy
In partnership with the Head of School, the Associate Dean of Faculty/Director assists with the
development and implementation of policies, procedures and programs that sustain an
inclusive, equitable and just school community. She or he works directly with the Head of
School to ensure that all students bene鍖t from the daily rigor of a sustained focus on the skills
and knowledge necessary to succeed in future schooling and, ultimately, to participate actively
in a multicultural society.
The Associate Dean/Director provides guidance and insight to all aspects of administrative work
related to the implementation of programs in support of the schools Mission and Diversity
Statements.
Essential Functions and Key Objectives:
The Associate Dean/Director will:
in partnership with the head of school, assist with the development and implementation of
policies, procedures and programs that sustain a diverse and inclusive school community
in partnership with administration and the Diversity Steering Committee, lead the school in
implementation of recommendations from the schools recent diversity climate assessment
in partnership with the dean of faculty and human resources, assist in recruiting, hiring,
mentoring and retaining faculty and staff who re鍖ect and support a diverse and inclusive
school community
coordinate faculty participation in professional development programming to support an
inclusive curriculum and co-curriculum
collaborate with the academic dean and department chairs to ensure the schools curriculum
re鍖ects the diversity of our school, national, and global communities
coordinate with the dean of students to develop student programming in the areas of
leadership and inclusivity
serve as an advisor to af鍖nity groups and student organizations promoting issues of diversity
and inclusion
collaborate with the of鍖ce of admissions and 鍖nancial aid to further increase and support
student diversity
2. working with the academic dean and dean of students, expand involvement of parents from
underrepresented groups
partner with the Alumni Council and director of alumni relations to extend outreach to
graduates from underrepresented groups
serve as a resource to the community for matters of diversity, inclusion and multicultural
practices

serve as a member of the Headmasters Executive Team
contribute to the academic and social life of the students by teaching and having
responsibilities in the afternoon and residential life programs
Supervision of Others:
Supervises the Director of the GovsPlus Program, a year round academic enrichment program
for middle schoolers from underrepresented local communities
Supervises the Director of the GovsSEE Program, The Academys international exchange
program
Quali鍖cations and Skills Required for Position:
a masters degree and a minimum of 鍖ve years of school administrative experience
participation in in-depth training in diversity, inclusion and multicultural practices at nationally
recognized seminars and workshops.
strategic thinking skills with a record of accomplishment in implementation of programs in
diversity and inclusion
strong organizational skills needed to interface with several academic and non-academic
departments
ability to work collegially with multiple constituencies
excellent written and oral communication skills
knowledge of independent schools is preferred, but not required
