The document discusses requirements and training for Competent Persons under the SAMCODES (South African Mineral Codes). It outlines that Competent Persons must be suitably qualified and experienced professionals who are subject to an enforceable code of ethics. They must have a minimum of 5 years experience in the relevant commodity or deposit type. Training provided includes introductory and advanced workshops, awareness presentations, and online courses to help professionals understand and comply with the SAMCODES reporting standards. Challenges to training include limited resources of the professional societies and needing to provide affordable, widespread training across the industry.
