President of The
General Assembly
on 11th June 2014.
 The Headquarters
of General
Assembly is in
New York.
Function:
 The General Assembly
controls much of UN’s
work and discusses about
international affairs.
 It discusses any question
that is brought to it and
can make
recommendations to the
member states and also to
the Security Council.
The Security Council
 The Presidency of the security council is held
by each member for one month duration. This
turn is given in the English alphabetical order
of the member states name. The following
table shows the presidency of security
council in 2014.

Function:
 The main function of The Security Council is
to maintain international peace and security.
 This body takes the responsibility of sending
peacekeeping missions to the troubled
areas in order to restore peace.
The Economic and Social
Council
 Martin Sajdik of Austria is the current
head of the Economic and Social
Council.
Functions:
 This council coordinates the economic,
social and related work of UN and it’s
agencies.
 The council takes direct actions in promoting
economic growth and other social
developments in developing countries.

The Trusteeship Council
 Alexis Lamek of France is the current President
of the Trusteeship Council.
Functions:
 This body was established to advance the
dependent territories and to make and help
them attain self-governance.
 The work of the council is finished but it
meets when it is required because it is still in
the UN Charter.
The International Court of
Justice
 Judge Peter
Tomka of Slovakia
is the current head
of the
International Court
of Justice.
 The Headquarters
if International
Court of Justice is
in Hague,
Netherlands.
Functions :
 It is the judicial organ of the UN.
 To settle legal disputes between states.
 To give advisory opinions to UN and it’s
specialized agencies.
The Secretariat
 Ban Ki-Moon of Republic of Korea is the
current Secretary-General of the UN.
Functions:
 This body administers the peacekeeping
operations, surveying economic and social
trends and etc.
 It can also bring attention of The Security
Council about any matter that it thinks can
threaten international peace and security.
 The Secretary-General can himself take
initiative to deal with special problems.
