Army Reserve Careers Division History
Originally an entity of the United States Army Reserve Command (USARC), Deputy Chief of Staff, Personnel (DCSPER), Strength Management, the Retention Office began as a result of the April 1997 Commanders Conference hosted by the USARC Commander, Major General Max Baratz. On 6 June 1997, the USARC Deputy Commanding General, Major General Thomas Plewes, formally established the USARC Retention Office, with Lieutenant Colonel Karl Peterson as its Chief.
