Vern has lived in Alaska, Iowa, Washington, Georgia, Arizona, Ohio and Virginia.
He attended Lincoln High School in Tacoma, WA & Valdosta High School in Valdosta, GA. He graduated in 1975.
He earned a B.S. in Electronics Engineering Technology in 1979.
Military Service:
He entered the US Air Force and received a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1980.
From 1980-83 he served at the Avionics Laboratory - Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio where he served as an electronic engineer. For two years he developed active electronic countermeasures against Soviet weapon targeting systems.
