Yan Bielek was born on September 11, 1951, one of three children raised by parents who where teachers in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia. Born under the communist rule and growing up during very oppressive years of 1950’s he often speculated and dreamed about freedom. His free spirit was crushed over and over again to make him fit the society he did not belonged to and eventually brought him into realization he was born at a wrong place. When English classes were offered during his middle school years he grabbed the opportunity and subconsciously continued studying the language until he reached the highest attainable level in Czechoslovakia – the state certificate of an English translator.
