Minitab Quality Improvement Experts to Present at ASQ
World Conference
State College, Pa. (PRWEB) April 23, 2014
It's common to think that process improvement initiatives are meant to cater only to manufacturing
processes, simply because manufacturing is where Lean and Six Sigma began. However, many other
service-based industries, such as financial services and healthcare, also rely on data analysis and
Lean Six Sigma tools to improve processes.
To help quality professionals
attending the ASQ 2014 World
Conference in Dallas understand how
statistical techniques can be
successfully utilized for process
improvement in the financial industry,
Rod Toro, business process
improvement manager at Edward
Jones, will present "'Hello, How Can I
Help You?' Improving Customer
Satisfaction in Financial Services" on
Monday, May 5 at 1:30 p.m. in the
Senators Lecture Hall at the Hilton
Anatole.
"We were faced with understanding how we can better meet increasing service demands and give
better overall customer service," Toro says. "Using Lean Six Sigma and the statistical tools in
Minitab, we performed a project to answer questions, such as, is it better to cross-train employees?
And, how can we optimize the average speed of answer?"
Toro's presentation will detail how the project team used statistical techniques--including design of
experiments, regression analysis, and predictive modeling--to make process improvements in the
company's service division.
To help quality professionals learn how DOE capabilities in Minitab Statistical Software can be used
to evaluate several process factors simultaneously and pinpoint what mix of those factors contribute
to process or product defects, senior Minitab technical training specialist Lou Johnson will present
"Design of Experiments for Defect Reduction" on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. in Coronado A
at the Hilton Anatole.
"When designing an experiment to fix a problem, it's important to have a reasonable estimate as to
what issue is most likely the cause," says Johnson. "This insight will help you to design the
experiment accordingly."
Johnson's presentation will use real-world case studies to illustrate his approach to designing
effective experiments.
In addition, Eduardo Santiago, Minitab technical training specialist, will present "Process Capability:
History, Assumptions and Challenges" on Monday, May 5 at 3:00 p.m. in Grand Ballroom AB. Joel
Smith, Minitab statistician and senior business development representative, will also present
"Surviving the Titanic: Tell a Story With Your Data" on Tuesday, May 6 at 10:45 a.m. in Grand
Ballroom DE.

Two other sessions, beginning at 10:15 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on May 6 in the Emerald Conference
Room, will include demonstrations that detail the features built into Minitab's most recent software
release.
"What's New in Minitab 17" will introduce the new features in the latest release of Minitab
Statistical Software--including enhancements to the Assistant menu and improvements to the
Regression and ANOVA interface. "Quick Start Your Way to Fearless Data Analysis" will highlight
how data analysis fears can be eliminated with the Assistant in Minitab 17. This demonstration will
walk through four different exercises to help users quickly get started analyzing data with Minitab.
Minitab representatives will be on hand throughout the ASQ World Conference, starting with the
opening reception May 4, 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the exhibit hall at the Hilton Anatole. Attendees are
invited to stop at the Minitab booth (#503) to learn more about the company's products and
services, which also include training, statistical mentoring and free technical support. Conference
