- February 14th is celebrated in Bulgaria as both Saint Trifon's Day and Valentine's Day. On this day, men traditionally prune the vineyards while women bake special breads and prepare meals to bring to the men. Rituals are performed to ensure a fruitful harvest. - When pruning their vines, each man makes the sign of the cross three times and washes the cut vines with red wine, holy water and ashes for blessings of abundance. Pruned twigs are made into wreaths. - Saint Trifon is also known as "Zarezan" meaning "snub-nosed" according to a folk story where the Virgin Mary cursed him while he was pruning. In recent years
