The Spanish sector of the oil is completely involved 0
in the Alimentaria 2012 show
The organisers of Alimentaria's olive oil and vegetable oil show are currently implementing
a special advertising campaign in potential markets such as China, Hong Kong, Japan,
Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, the USA and countries from the Middle East. This initiative
aims to expand the trade of those importers involved in the show's business meetings and,
furthermore, Olivaria has also received widespread support from the olive industry, whose see contents
leading companies will be taking part.
The show will be returning to Barcelona between 26 and 29 March, 2012, within the Price watch
Alimentaria framework, and will pay particular attention to strategies of competitiveness,
internationalisation and food industry brands. Alimentaria expects to fill 95,000 m² with its
commercial range and gastronomic, business and innovative activities involving 4,000
companies (a third from overseas) and 140,000 buyers (25% from around the world), thus
confirming its status as an international centre of commercial operations.
The quality of olive oil continues
to arouse interest in the global
market – in September 2011
824,100 tonnes were exported,
6% more than the previous fiscal
year according to the Spanish
Olive Oil Agency, with the Asian
market being one of the most

opportunities Olivaria has been
implementing a special
advertising campaign for the
show in key Asian countries
such as China – according to the
Spanish Olive Oil Inter-professional Organisation, 9,461 tonnes of oil were sold to China,
and in the first 8 months of 2011 these sales grew by 125% - Honk Kong, Japan,
Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore. We must also not forget other target markets such as
the USA – the second global consumer of Spanish oil – and the Middle East. The aim of
this initiative is to attract new importers for the Olive Oil Business Meetings, conferences
that will put exhibiting countries into contact with leading olive oil distributors from around
the world. They will be held in Olivaria's new zone, the Olive Oil Business Area, designed
to promote international business.
The olive oil and vegetable oil show also expects the involvement of buyers from other
significant markets such as Brazil, Canada, Australia and Peru, among others.
An established show
The Olivaria Show has become an international benchmark. As Josep Pont, President of
Olivaria and Managing Director of Borges Holding, points out, “it is a great platform for
