This unit plan outlines lessons for a week-long unit on President's Day for third grade students. The lessons include researching presidents in groups and comparing them using a SMARTBoard on Monday. On Tuesday, students will read a book about presidents and write stories about being president. Wednesday's math lesson involves creating a bar graph of presidential pets using the SMARTBoard. Thursday has students making campaign posters and commercials about their assigned president using iPads and Flip cameras. Friday concludes with viewing founding documents and making paper from recycled newspapers to create a classroom constitution.

3. Lesson Plans for the Week
Monday - Students will be split into groups of five and
will be given a president to research on this website.
We will use the SMARTBoard to compare and contrast
each groups president.
Tuesday - Language Arts - We will read the childrens
book So You Want to be President? Students will
write stories about what they would do if they were
president using Microsoft Word.
Wednesday - Math - students will use the SMARTBoard
to make a bar graph of all the different pets each
president had and how many of each. They can use this
website to find the information.
4. Lesson Plans for the Week (cont.)
Thursday - History - Students will get back into their
groups from Monday and will create campaign posters
for their president using the facts they found on the
internet. They can create their campaigns using the
iPad. They will also create a presidential commercial
using Flip cameras.
Friday - Science - We will view the Constitution and the
Declaration of Independence. Students will learn to
make their own paper by recycling old newspapers. We
will then create a classroom constitution to hang in the
room.
