1. Literature serves two main functions - to entertain (dulce) and to teach or convey virtues (utile). It acts as a medium to clarify experiences, organize reactions to life, and gain experience without direct exposure. 2. Literature brings together experiences and ideas from different fields of study. It can increase contemplation of beauty and express emotions in a way that increases health. 3. Each literary work has integrity, individuation, and harmony - referring to the meaningful structure, uniqueness, and proper proportion of parts to the whole. Literature imitates life through both fiction and non-fiction.
