Santiago Ramon discovered neurons in 1888 in Spain. Neurons are the basic functional unit of the nervous system, carrying electric impulses. A neuron consists of a cell body, dendrites that receive signals, and a long axon that transmits signals. There are three main types of neurons - sensory neurons transmit signals from receptors to the central nervous system, motor neurons transmit signals from the CNS to muscles and glands, and associative neurons link sensory and motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord.
10. One or more short processes of
dendron are called Dendrites.
Its function is to bring impulses
towards the cell body.

11. Axon:
It is single long fiber that arises
from the cell body. (as shown in the
diagram.)

12. Axons of large neurons is covered by a
white sheath called Myelin Sheath.
The distance between two nodes is
called Schwann cell.(as shown in the
diagram.)

13. Axons function is to receive nerve
impulse from the cell body

14. Types Of Neurons:
There are three
types of neurons.
Sensory Neurons.
Motor Neurons.
Associative Neurons.

15. SENSORY NEURON:
It carry nerve impulse
from the receptor (sense organs) to CNS.
MOTOR NEURON:
It carries nerve impulse
from the CNS to the effectors (muscles and
glands)

16. ASSOCIATIVE NEURON:
They are
present in brain and spinal cord. They
link the sensory neurons with motor
neurons.
