In China, teachers are known as "nation builders." Maybe we could borrow that label for teachers in our schools. Of course, that may need to be tomorrow's lesson in the classroom so that students know what that means... Support our teachers and start teaching children how to read, write, and speak at home. Show them how to do simple math problems and challenge them to do more difficult ones. Push them to read the newspaper, experiment, draw, and be creative. Show them that they do matter and you support them in their decisions. While you are eating dinner together, ask them how their day was. Ironically, that is what teachers do every day.
