a) perform high-level world-class research in theoretical particle physics using lattice techniques
b) educate students in physics and in particular in theoretical particle physics
c) supervise research students and guide them to a successful Ph.D.
d) attract a constant stream of research fundings from funding agencies
e) promote the use of Linux in desktop computing
