I come from a long line of sewers and doers. I like technique and the history of crafts as much as doing them. My aspiration is to be as good as an ordinary woman a century ago. For 18 years I taught embroidery and design and still would if I could get my act together to make it happen. I like the ordinariness and love in domestic needlework and will defend it to the death... which sounds concieted I know, but the arts can be mighty uppity and yet not see the amazing skill of a lace knitted shawl or a Fair Isle vest that no woman of the 40's would have thought out of the ordinary. But, having said that, it's great, no matter how you spin it. Textiles are scrummy and I'm quite fond of them.
